The Department of English at Government Degree College was established in the same year as the college's inception.
Its vision is to foster analytical, ethical, and critical thinking through literature and language. Aligned with the
New Education Policy 2020, the department focuses on the comprehensive development of students' understanding of
literary principles, cultural discourses, and communication skills.
In B.A. The English program is a three-year undergraduate course spread across six semesters, offering a total of 10
core papers along with skill enhancement and ability enhancement courses. The course encourages interdisciplinary
engagement, critical inquiry, and field-based learning through project work and creative assignments.
In addition to regular classroom teaching, the department offers a range of co-curricular activities including
lectures, film screenings, literary symposia, and student-led seminars. Faculty members provide close mentoring
to students to support academic growth and personal development. The Department is committed to creating an
