NSS

The National Service Scheme is an ambitious program of the Government of India, implemented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in various Universities and Institutes of higher education. This program is designed for the social linkages between communities and educational institutions to work voluntarily to produce students who are not just intellectually developed but also sensitized towards their duty and obligations as thecountry's citizens. It provides ample opportunities for the students in higher education to serve their nations through volunteer community service activities and gain practical knowledge. The National Service Scheme (NSS) was launched on September 24, 1969, with the ideology of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, who aspired to develop the personalities of the students and adopt moral values, discipline, self-confidence, concern for the environment, patriotism, ideals of democracy, and social justice, and at the same time contribute to community welfare. All the youth volunteers who opt to serve the nation through the NSS-led community service wear the NSS badge with pride and a sense of responsibility towards helping the needy. The Konark wheel in the NSS badge has 8 bars, which signify the 24-hourservices, reminding the wearer to be ready for the nation's service round the clock, i.e., for 24 hours.Red colour in the badge signifies energy, and the Blue colour signifies the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of mankind.
